Shoot it, Sketch it – Heart of Stone

Posted on March 3, 2013

If you are driving the New England Highway from Brisbane to Sydney, you will pass through a little town called “Uralla”. The town marked the half way point of our 1000 km road trip in 2010. We stopped for lunch and decided to visit the local Information Office. What caught our attention most, was the story of a basalt heart built into one of the towns 150 year old stone walls.

Whether it was put in place by a stone mason with a full heart or broken heart, no one seems to know. But I am sure there is an interesting untold story behind the heart of stone.

If you don’t want to do the drive, I can take you there with some Google Maps magic. You will find the wall on Hill Street in Uralla by clicking HERE and find the stone for yourself.

Don’t let your heart be hardened
– don’t let your love grow cold.
May it always stay so childlike
– may it never grow too old.
