I paddled around it in my Kayak.
I felt its cold dead branches, once alive and full of leaves.
I wondered how a big and strong tree came to this humiliating end.

Reeds still stand where this proud tree once stood.
Reeds still stand where this proud tree once looked down on them with pity.
Reeds still stand where this proud tree once relied on its size and strength.

‘A reed before the wind lives on, while mighty oaks do fall’
